ERIC ROBERSON – A TALE OF TWO (10.4.rog re-do)

erro chair

no, pharoahe monch did not clean up, silly. that's a grammy-nominated erro!

—–

‘Tis a fruitful year for independent and plain-good recording artists.  Along with the like minds of The Foreign Exchange, Lalah Hathaway, Bilal, and Robert Glasper, Eric Roberson has been nominated for a Grammy for the song “A Tale of Two” featuring Ben O’Neill and Michelle Thompson from his latest effort, Music Fan First.  Abandoning tact and formality for a brief moment, I wanna say that shit is crazy!!!

To commemorate the nomination, Eric has been holding quite an accessible remix competition since December 10, and has pushed the promotions over YouTube and Twitter,  allowing all participants to email their versions of the grammy-nominated song until 11:59PM tonight.  All entries will be judged by Eric himself, along with producers/Grammy-familiars Brett Baker, Bryan M. Cox, and Rich Harrison.

My entry for the competition is linked below.  Enjoy, and props with congratulations to Eric for the nomination and most especially, for giving producers everywhere a wonderful opportunity.

MIGUEL ATWOOD-FERGUSON + HYPNOTIC BRASS ENSEMBLE = “SCRABBLE”

FULL SCREEN
The Sounds of VTech / Hypnotic Brass Ensemble by Mochilla

via @ blindiforthekids

here’s some that massive, gorgeous, LA mess.  photographers eric coleman and B+ (the two consist of the production company ‘mochilla’) organized a one-off w/ madlib, the hypnotic brass ensemble and the composer/arranger/hip-hop champion miguel atwood-ferguson. here the latter two are caught performing a version of rene costy’s “scrabble,” more popularly known to most folks as the foundation for the late jay dee’s “fuck the police.”

this shit is just nuts.

Maxwell’s tribute to MJ: “Lady in My Life” -- (via @rapradar)

On the last day of last month, Michael Jackson’s Thriller turned 26.  Last night, on CBS’ 2009 Grammy Awards Nominations Show (not quite the actual Grammy Awards [confusing!]), the mighty Maxwell flipped track 9.

THEESATISFACTION THINGS.

sure.

they qualify, but it might be unfair just to call THEEsatisfaction a hip-hop duo.  thee raps.  sat sings. that won’t quite do justice to the group’s talents either.  not when they’re  simply making  music.  all the time.  without charging you for it.

it’s what thee did the night before thanksgiving.  she couldn’t sleep.  so she cut up some stevie wonder and fashioned a mini-beat tape with the trimmings.  peep the titles and getting the concept is easy.  take it as a seven-minute piece of experimentation.

while we was sleeping, thee was on her concept beat-tape game.

1. greens soaking in the sink

2. white people eat stuffing

3. HEY! diabetic yams

4. macaroni please

5. smoked turkey (hope it don’t jerky)

not ones to let output outdo quality, the group officially released this collaboration  with oc notes just a few days prior.  running just under two minutes, there’s a lot going on in “icing”, maybe more than a lot of four minute shits you can think of.  beautiful voices, for instance.

CLOUD NICE STUDIO (JUNEAU/PLUTO)

A couple days ago I had took a trip down to the Cloud for a meeting with my brother from another Tay. After business was finished, we took a listen to an almost finished version of the upcoming album HELLADOPE: Return To Planet Rock. I had my puter with me and was lucky enough to record some secret footage. Peep game.

If you were in awe as I was wondering who was on the hook, it’s none other then the lovely  @IsabellaDuGraf (follow her, I hear she wants 400 followers by her bday).

Keep tuned on here and Cloud Nice for more details about the release of the album and some surprises that go along with it…

AUTO-TUNE? THERE’S AN APP FOR THAT.

The first video is a little more entertaining in that you see normal people T-Pain’in’ it up as best as they can to “Buy U A Drank.” But don’t sleep on the second video (re: Miss Keri Baby)! Now available in the iTunes App Store. I Am T-Pain. Please let me know if your BlackBerry is capable of running anything similar to this app! kthxbye!
